When you choose a 100% renewable plan,* we purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) that match your electricity usage. These certificates represent the environmental benefits of renewable energy generation.

Energy from sun, wind, or other clean sources goes into the grid and is turned into electricity

This electricity flows into the power grid, mixing both renewable and non-renewable energy

Special tracking systems measure how much of this electricity is created from renewable power sources.

For all of the electricity produced from renewable sources, a renewable energy credit (or REC) is created.

These RECs are bought and sold, helping to pay for the environmental benefits of clean energy.
