Common Questions About PA Energy Choice
Pennsylvania's Electric Competition Act allows residents and businesses to choose their electricity generation supplier while the local utility continues to deliver the power. This means you can shop for better rates or cleaner energy sources while maintaining the same reliable service. The utility still reads your meter, maintains power lines, and responds to outages.
Energy rates vary across Pennsylvania due to several factors: different utility territories have different transmission and distribution costs, local infrastructure varies by region, and market conditions differ across the state. Additionally, each utility company has its own "price to compare" that changes quarterly, which affects the competitive rates we can offer in each area.
In Pennsylvania, the switch typically takes 1-2 billing cycles to complete. You'll receive a confirmation letter from your utility once the switch is processed. There's no interruption to your service during the switch - it happens behind the scenes. The exact timing depends on your meter reading date and when you enroll in the billing cycle.
There are no fees from Indra Energy to switch. Pennsylvania law prohibits utilities from charging switching fees. However, if you're currently under contract with another supplier, check for any early termination fees they may charge. If you're currently with your utility's default service, you can switch at any time without penalty.
